UN Women in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) convened an expert group meeting on “Gender, Science, and Technology” from September 28-October 1, 2010 in Paris, France. This group explored the gender dimensions of science and technology, and identified policies and programs that help attain internationally agreed upon development goals, including the millennium development goals.
The 55th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women was devoted to this theme. Member states passed resolutions in March 2011 which call for "gender-based analysis ... in science and technology" and for the integrations of a "gender perspective in science and technology curricula” (See Agreed Conclusions, section rr)].
